Trump Bites is a series of short animated films based on actual Trump audio clips, hand-drawn by two-time Academy Award nominee Bill Plympton. The first three episodes premiered on the New York Times web site in June 2018 and went viral, garnering over 10 million views, and winning the Webby Award for Best Animated Series. Daily Kos called it “biting and hilarious;” Sean Hannity called it “despicable.” I created and produced the series with my partner, David Roberts. Three new episodes are in the works.
Comedy writers complain that Trump is impossible to satirize because nothing they write can top what he actually says. Trump Bites uses real audio clips as the basis of surreal animations that capture Trump’s paranoia, narcissism, and xenophobia.
